Fall Campout: Fort Richardson State Park, Sept. 10-12, 2010

posted Sep 1, 2010 6:44 PM by Chuck Haynes   [ updated Sep 21, 2010 9:06 PM ]

WHERE:  Fort Richardson State Park (map)

Our Fall family campout will be at Fort Richardson State Park. On Saturday, there will be a civil war re-enactment at this historic park where the boys will be able to see frontier weapons fired (guns, cannons). The park also has many former fort buildings restored as museums that families can tour.

For new scouting families: The facilities at Texas State Parks are good -- drive-in camp sites with potable water and electricity, showers and decent restroom facilities. It is camping, though, so you'll need camping gear (please work with your den leader for a list of needed items). Information on this state park: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/fort_richardson/ P. S. Some families purchase a state parks pass to get free admission (per-vehicle fee) at state parks. We usually have 2-3 state parks campouts during the year, so it can pay for itself. This fee is separate from the overnight camping fee (per campsite) that the pack pays from dues and fundraiser proceeds.

We had a contingent of 46 people affiliated with Pack 777 and Troop 777 travel down to Corpus Christi.  The boys had a blast spending the night on the ship.  The dad's had a little trouble squeezing into our bunks.. but we made it!

Thank you Katie Mistele.  Katie  put a lot of work into planning this trip for us.   From our itinerary to suggested ideas for things to do during our stay... I know my family had fun.   The Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce should be thanking her as well.   She is a good ambassador for the city.

The First Annual Dad's Club Outlaw Derby was a big success!
Thanks to Brian Stilwell, Dave Premo, and the Pinewood Derby Team (Scott Johannesmeyer, Ken Butler, Matthew Wilson) for putting on a fun event.  It looks like the Dad's Club is going to donate around $300 to the pack for our new trailer.  After the Holiday Tamales Sale, we have about $500 saved up.

Wow what a fun day!  We had a great turnout and our Pinewood Derby Volunteers put on a great event.  Scott Johannesmeyer, Ken Butler, and Matthew Wilson all need a pat on the back for doing all that they did to put on the Derby.

When:  Drop off Bags: Saturday, February 13
Pick up Food: Saturday, February 20
Where: Link to Map of Neighborhood Pack 777 is responsible.

This is the Circle 10 Council's yearly councilwide charity campaign.   It just takes a little time during two Saturday's in a row.  Marshall Andrews is running this effort for the pack this year! He got in and secured our area and has picked up the bags for us to distribute.  We will need some volunteers to help deliver the food after we pick up on February 20.
